The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
