The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Silent Hill and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of fascinating upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a young woman harboring multiple human souls inside her must escape from a maze of the mind," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of teenage years. Inside her exist four distinct souls, all possessing their own fears and motivations. These entities can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their innermost terrors upon her suddenly.

Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the action takes place within a creepy hospital, while additional clips depict the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

An Environment of Personal Dread

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that appear minor to others can activate something primal inside us. This game explores that concept — fears that are unique to every individual."

The core gameplay loop involves managing whichever soul surfaces at a particular time. However, these identities will change against your will as you play. During exploration, each soul's fears become amplified and assault the protagonist in succession. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is populated by orderlies all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the lobby have enormous flowers where their necks are. Floral motifs are a recurring element, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the body belongs to them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you must determine who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a persona is fake, they must eliminate it. But, because each soul can lie or hide the truth, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the true [soul] by your own actions," the narration suggests. "The last one standing could be a fake. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it is can be follow on platforms.
