Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
